TEAM OF THE WEEK: Season Ten, Round Nine - May 03
GORDON MURRAY
Team: Rutherford.
Result: Rutherford 4 def by. Belmont 8
Why: Returning after a lengthy absence to begin the season, Murray reminded spectators why he's one of the most feared catchers in the Newcastle Dodgeball League, swinging momentum for Rutherford in all 4 of their round wins to keep them in the match.
First appearance in the Team of the Week.
NIC PRICE
Team: Belmont
Result: Belmont 8 def. Rutherford 4
Why: Price has yet to captain Belmont to a finals berth since their foundation in the league, and with performances like the one he put in for the 8-4 victory it seems like he's finished waiting - he's ready to play in the finals and push for a trophy in Season 10.
Second appearance in the Team of the Week.
PETER GOLDTHORPE
Team: Raymond Terrace
Result: Raymond Terrace 5 def. by Hamilton 6
Why: There's little that can be said about Goldthorpe's weekly performances that haven't already been said, so perhaps identifying it was his birthday in the match that nearly saw him lead the Terrace to the biggest scalp of their club's ten season history can answer some questions about his even higher up-swing in form in round 9.
Fifth appearance in the Team of the Week.
HARRY GIBSON
Team: Hamilton.
Result: Hamilton 6 def. Raymond Terrace 5
Why: Hamilton almost fell prey to Raymond Terrace's early game pressure, as well as a key performance from Goldthorpe, but it was Gibson's vital late-round control that kept the defending champions in the match enough to mount a comeback to their tight 6-5 victory.
Third appearance in the Team of the Week.
JAKUB LUNARZEWSKI
Team: Waratah.
Result: Waratah 5 def. by Cooks Hill 6
Why: Cooks Hill bumped Waratah down the ladder this weekend with their win over the former league-leaders, but Lunarzewski may have been best on field despite the loss. Denied the competition points for his performance by foul-plays by teammates late on in the contest, Lunarzewski remains hot on Goldthorpe's heels in the race for Most Valuable Player.
Fourth appearance in the Team of the Week.
LEWIS FOOT
Team: Cooks Hill.
Result: Cooks Hill 6 def. Waratah 5
Why: Another player hot on Goldthorpe's heels is the Cookers' impact flanker Lewis Foot. Having taken up the call to 'carry the team' after a series of flagging performances, Foot has done that and more as he books in his third spot in six weeks in the Team of the Week, and fourth placing overall.
Fourth appearance in the Team of the Week.
