TEAM OF THE WEEK: Season Ten, Round Three - March 15
EVA BAILEY
Team: Waratah
Result: Waratah 8 def. Rutherford 3
Why: The leading team cruised to another triumph in the third round of the season, but Bailey's shining performance earned her a second Team of the Week appearance, as her usual catching game was added to by six eliminations to choke Belmont out of the fixture. In the end, Bailey's catches also proved crucial to the win, as her and fellow TOTW selection Georgia Graham (below) controlled catches from deep.
Second appearance in the Team of the Week.
GEORGIA GRAHAM
Team: Waratah
Result: Waratah 8 def. Rutherford 3
Why: The second half of the 'Tahs dynamic catching duo, Graham again showed off her deep-court control as she forced Rutherford into a low-played game with her just threatening catches. Twice in the match her catches swung the tide in Waratah's favour, and the scoreline ends a lot closer without her major efforts.
Second appearance in the Team of the Week.
PETER GOLDTHORPE
Team: Raymond Terrace
Result: Raymond Terrace 5 def. by Hamilton 6
Why: Yes, the Terrace suffered a defeat, but it was the hands of the defending premiers in the third round, and regardless of the 6-5 defeat Goldthorpe lead his team in all five of the won-rounds to make sure they remained in the contest. Goldthorpe is also continuing red-hot form from the opening rounds, and looks to be gunning for a spot in the Team of the Season.
Third appearance in the Team of the Week.
THOMAS MCCALLUM
Team: Hamilton
Result: Hamilton 6 def. Belmont 5
Why: McCallum, often known for his rapid counter-attacks and lethal eliminations (and a handful of not-out eagles a season) proved he's more than just the pace of his arm as a hat-trick of catches from the dangerous winger claimed the points for Hamilton. McCallum's first appearance in the Team of the Week, as a lynchpin in the defending premiers' second win, will certainly not be his last.
First appearance in the Team of the Week.
BEJAMIN MCINTYRE
Team: Cooks Hill
Result: Cooks Hill 5 draw. Raymond Terrace 5
Why: After two torrid opening weeks for the Cooks Hill club, their fortunes look to be on the rise, especially considering the performance that captain Benjamin McIntyre pulled out in the 5-all draw. Although it was shared points, McIntyre's bursts of speed and split-second dodges - absent in the past few seasons since his move to the Cookers - is back, and perhaps with it is the club's first chance at a title, and premiership glory.
First appearance in the Team of the Week.
LIAM JANCZUK
Team: Belmont
Result: Belmont 5 draw. Cooks Hill 5
Why: Cooks Hill are not a team to be taken lightly, even with an 0-2 start to their name, and Janczuk didn't back down from the challenge that dangerous wingers like McIntyre, Lewis Foot and even deep forward Michael Kolmajer provided. Catches, eliminations and dodges were all the name of the game for the Belmont vice-captain as he led the squad in Nic Price's absence, and it truly was a leader's performance from Janczuk as the points were shared.
First appearance in the Team of the Week.
