With just two regular rounds left in Season 11, a vital upset for Belmont over Hamilton has blown the race for first place wide open, as the Stags fall back into the four-way battle at the top of the standings.
The Beavers claimed a key 10-3 win over the defending champions to move back within just two points of a top two finish, and a vital quarter-final bye for the looming playoffs, after early dominance choked an under-manned Hamilton out of the game.
Key moments came from Jaimi Bubb on the win as he collected two MVP points for his squad, and an ordered and controlled set-up from Belmont proved key as they entered the half-break with a strong lead, an advantage they would see out to the end of the match.
The Stags' defeat also sets up a blockbuster match-up in the second last regular season round - Hamilton will take on Shortland in the battle for first place, with both teams sitting on a level 30 points and the defending champions leading only on a superior set difference.
The winner-takes-all fixture comes after Shortland secured a 14-2 win over Bar Beach on Thursday evening, to keep themselves on pace for a potential top two finish in their first season in the league.
Also on Thursday evening, Waratah warded away a Raymond Terrace challenge to win 9-4, remaining level with the victorious Beavers, while Cooks Hill earned their second win of the season over Kotara, 9-8.
